We had a stewardship sign-up last weekend, covering all ministries in the parish. I was ecstatic to find that four people signed up with our chant schola, all of them having attended the workshop. This is a huge deal, because we’ve struggled for a couple of years now to maintain a critical mass of schola members. Generally we’ve had 8-12 members (excluding myself) but perhaps only 6-8 of them are actively singing the Masses.
And the news just gets better! After four years of being an exclusively all-male group, three women have now signed up. This means we’ll have a much better chance of being able to try some more interesting call-response patterns and perhaps even some simple polyphony. 2009-2010 is going to be a fun year!
