Sacred Music Group Coaching

What is Group Coaching?

It is a regular schedule of telephone conversations, coached by Carl, focused on a specific shared collection of issues around which the participants are each needing to make progress. These topics are defined so far, but additional topics can be created based on demand:

Groups are strictly limited to six participants, so that each person has ample opportunity to tap the expertise of the group.

What does a meeting look like?

All meetings are over the telephone, so you can participate from the comfort of your home. This approach also lets those of us who aren’t particularly close to other schola leaders to help exchange our ideas, frustrations, and progress.

The typical group coaching meeting starts off with prayer, after which each participant quickly summarizes the progress they have made in the past week, and the top one or two issues they are focusing on for taking concrete action. Each person has the opportunity to ask the group for help, advice, and/or support.

After everyone has had a chance to speak, the Coach focuses discussion on some common issues which were raised in the first section, helping the group to drive toward developing solutions and next steps. Every attempt is made to cover the issues which will help each individual make significant progress in the coming week.

In the third section of the meeting, each person declares what actions they are going to take in the coming week.

In between meetings is where the real progress is made. Each individual is responsible for taking action and following through, as well as encouraging and supporting the efforts of others in the group. This interaction takes place primarily through emails.

Why does group coaching work?

  • Group coaching provides a safe environment where it’s OK to ask for help, and where others are actively supporting your progress.
  • Group members are consistent over the span of six weeks, so they can grow to trust each other and respect the diversity of approaches and backgrounds.
  • Since the conversations are held in confidence, it is easier to discuss sensitive issues such as lack of motivation, difficulty in influencing others, and being new to the field of Sacred Music.
  • As with 1-to-1 coaching, you become very focused on the next tangible steps. Verbally articulating an issue, by itself, helps to identify the source of the solution.
  • You are able to tap the expertise and viewpoints of a diverse set of people who are all devoting deep thought to similar issues.
  • By declaring your next steps to others you trust, you’re much more likely to achieve your goals. Not only are the next steps more tangible and achievable, but there’s also an accountability which comes from knowing that the others will be interested to know how much progress you made.

And in addition!

In addition to the group coaching, you will be given a one hour personal 1-on-1 coaching session with Carl, either at the beginning or end of the six weeks of group coaching – your option. During this session, you will be able to clarify your larger goals and build some skills which will help you continue your passion over the longer term.

Why is Carl doing this?

I have a passion around Sacred Music, and deep expertise in professional 1-to-1 and group coaching. I have noticed that many of us are struggling with similar issues, but have little chance to interact with others and ask for support. The MusicaSacra Forums are extremely active and are valuable for those who are courageous enough to ask for help, but many struggle to ask tough questions on a website which is open to the entire planet.

Don’t count on me to be an expert on Sacred Music. Although I have led a schola for five years, I can’t begin to have the deep expertise of others – even you. You can count on me to facilitate excellent discussions which will help everyone in the group to move toward goals and achievements that had just been a dream.

What does it cost?

The cost is $75, paid after the first introductory phone call, which covers the full six weeks of group coaching calls plus the one hour with Carl directly. The 100% money-back guarantee is this: If you’re not satisfied with the value that you’ve received from the calls, I’ll refund the amount in full.

The phone calls will be held on a US toll-free number, so there’s no cost for that. It is recommended that you do not call using a cell phone or Skype, as those tend to introduce noise. We want to make these outstandingly productive discussions.
